How to cut your fringe/bangs at home [Step by Step]

Dear readers,

I've been pondering about cutting my fringe for a while now.

I usually cut it in Winter only since I wouldn't bear it on my forehead during the hot, Summer months. Last time I cut it was nearly 3 years ago. Previously the hairdresser used to cut it for me, but since I'm a full time student now and money is tight, I thought about cutting it myself at home.

I bought a pair of cute, pink scissors from Ebay [I got them from here]. I've also watched countless of You Tube videos on how to do this before taking the plunge.

This is the result:

and this is how I did it....

You should start with clean, straight, dry hair

Using a rat tail comb, find the middle of your head (or less, depending on how far back you want your fringe to start from)

Using the comb, draw one line from the centre of your head (or the point) to the end of your eyebrows. Do the same with the other side.

You should end up with a triangle like this one.

Tie the rest of your hair back.

Comb through your hair. Then grab it between your index and middle finger (I grabbed it with my right since I'm right handed - if you're left handed, grab it with your left)

Twist your hair to the right, then grab it with your left hand...

You should end up with something like this. Notice how the hair is now overlapping. By doing this, your fringe will be shorter in the centre and longer on the sides ^.^

Cut just beneath your fingers. I rested my hand on the middle of my nose, and cut there. It's better if you cut a little at a time!

Yeyy, mission accomplished :)

my cute pink lace scissors ^.^

What do you think? Would you be willing to try it yourselves?

Love,

Lorraine
xoxo

    6. What a ridiculous comment Lindsey! Should we not change our own oil? Mow our own lawn? Clean my own house? Really, we can spend out own money the way we want and should not be slammed for not wanting to go spend a ridiculous amount of money on hairdressers. I think this is great!

    9. Damn, some of you people are so damned cranky! I’m a “pandemically” out of work New Orleans musician = BROKE. If people miss live music & wanna play their own piano at home or sing in the shower, GOOD FOR THEM! We all need music in our lives! Maybe that’s what’s what’s wrong w/ Lindsey! I’m just looking for some help so I can help my hair!

  2. You bangs look soooo good! I never have the guts to do bangs myself lol, I feel very unskilled when it comes to cutting hair. My stylist usually will do it for me for free.

    1. awwwww thanks :') it's really easy if you follow the steps correctly. I've stopped going to the hairdresser, I'm dying and cutting it myself nowadays (until I make a mess of it, that is, lol)

    2. I always cut and color my own hair. It looks GREAT according to my friends and boyfriend. THAT WAY, I don't have to listen to some self-centered diarrhea mouth, who won't SHUT THE UP AND CUT MY HAIR>

    3. WHY do people have to respond to nice, kind people in nastiness??! SO true--"self-centered" poop mouth...makes herself look like a HUGE butt. Thanks Lorraine, for sharing your knowledge and cute, fun pink scissors to make it fun! Lindsey, please JUST be QUIET!--move on....really!

  3. Hey! I cut my own fringe too but I use a different method because I don't want the sides to be too long. :)

  10. Well I think the tutorial was great!!! :) I think ppl who troll these and post silly comments have nothing better to do. I have had high end stylists mess up my hair...not all stylists are worth it...Love tutorials that teach these great things. Takes a lot to post online a tutorial. I will be trying this method soon :)

  11. Thanks so much, Lorraine. Absolutely brilliant! I am sooo fussy about my bangs & am not always entirely pleased with how hairdressers cut them. Thanks to you, I have now been able to cut/trim my own bangs. To be honest, I now prefer cutting them myself. Keep up the sterling work. Lorraine!

  12. I’ve been depriving so called cosmetologists for years by cutting my own! Not because I can’t afford it, but because no one can seem to cut it right!!!

  13. Lindsey, news flash: Idiototicy is not a word. Now, idiotic, as in the comment you made might fit. Or, idiocracy, or idiodically....People have a right to post a tutorial and allow others to read and enjoy in peace.

  14. As a professional stylist, I don't mind when someone cuts their own hair. It's where I started. And besides hairstyling is a form of art that every one should feel free to try. And I'll be be here when they mess up JK :) good luck to everyone who tries :)

  15. I trim my own bangs between going in to the hairdresser as they get to long between visits. I have been using this method for years and it works for me. Just remember if you cut it while wet it will be shorter looking when it dries. You can always trim off more but you can’t put it back on.

  16. People are broke does god sakes. We cut our own because we cannot afford $50 to $100. If you're worried about depriving a licensed hairdresser stay outa Wally Mart, where you shop for cheap stuff. They are like the sweat shop of the US! And how some hairdressers get a license I cannot fathom. Three chat my long hair into a profound mess, visible stairsteps across side and the dreaded neck roll on a bob. I have to practically scream out "Point Cut!" And don't even think of Super Cuts unless you want a Super bad cut. Stay away from the $20 cut places unless you are entering the military. Even then.

And don't trouble yourself to comment spelling trolls. Its the damned auto correct, ok?

Thanks for the bang cut tutorial sister! It's a college girl eating Top Ramen people! Kudos for your frugality!

  17. I come from a long line of professional & self Barbers & Hairstylists. I would NEVER discourage anyone to not experiment with their OWN hair hair if they wished. That's how we get damn good at it! Hell! I even tweeze my own eyebrows, do my own mani's & pedi's and wipe my own butt. There's professionals in those departments as well. WHO cares.. I'm the Captain of this Ship!!!🙂
