Lately I have become obsessed with red lipstick.
I have bought various shades (with most of them being on the way so I can't say anything about them for the moment - will post reviews with swatches when they're delivered).
I decided to do a step by step how to achieve perfect red lips with staying power. I'm not saying this is the right way - it is how I do it, but a lot of women seem to use this method when applying red lipstick.
Step 1:
Step 2:
Cover your lips with concealer or foundation. This will not only act as a primer but will also neutralise your natural lip shade - making the lipstick colour brighter.
Here I used Rimmel Hide the Blemish Concealer in 'Soft Honey'.
Step 3:
Line your lips with a lipliner of your choice. This will stop your lipstick from feathering (especially if you have wrinkles around your mouth) and will also make your lipstick look more precise.
I used Maybelline Super Stay Lip Liner in 'Red'.
Step 4:
Fill in your lips with the lip liner. This will act as a base to the lipstick and will improve its staying power.
Step 5:
Fill in your lips with the lipstick of your choice. You can fill them in with a lipstick brush or straight from the lipstick bullet.
My lip colour is Max Factor's Ruby Tuesday.
Step 6:
Using an angled brush (or a similar small brush), contour your lips using a concealer. This will also stop any feathering and you can also correct any mistakes. It was also give your lips a more polished look. Blend concealer and fix using a tiny amount of powder.
Step 7:
....and you're done! You can leave it as is (top picture) or put on some lipgloss (bottom).
